Hair damage is a reality we all face at some point in our hair journey. The good news is it isn’t by any means fatal. Your hair can and will bounce back and can become even more healthy than it was before. Understanding what causes damage to your hair informs your future hair care strategies. 1. Regular hair trims. Split ends and strand knots lead to hair breakage. These damage the hair strands and limit healthy hair growth. Timely trims of ¼ of an inch are recommended every three to four months.
2. Minimal to no heat. Heat directly causes hair damage. if it is that you desire a specific hairstyle that requires flat irons and blow dryers minimize the number of times you use it for special occasions. It's also helpful to treat before and use heat protectants to prevent extensive hair damage. The best heat protectant doesn’t guarantee damage-free hair.
3. Decide to not bleach or color hair permanently. We all desire a new look at some point and want to feel proud our hair cannot break under the pressure. It's not worth it. However, if you insist make it your point of duty to incorporate a deep conditioning and moisturizing hair regimen. This can minimize the hair damage you experience. Another option is to wear colored wigs or install hair-colored pieces within your hair to get the desired color pop but without the damage. Hair colors are now trending that can be applied like hair oil to your hair without extensive damage.
4. Use natural oils. Select a natural oil like coconut oil that can penetrate the hair shaft and moisture from the inside out. It also aids in protecting the natural oils on the outside of the hair.
